I am not very happy with the running quality of the Heljan Di3. I am considering changing the Heljan wheels/axles to axles with (RP25) wheels with better current pick up quality.
Does anyone have any suggestions about the best approach. I know that Hobbytrade made wheels/axles in the past that could be used, but these are to me knowledge sold out, so I do not consider that an option.
Thanks for your suggestions!

Hi,

I just changed the wheels on two of my Nohab,s from Heljan.
Bought these at http://www.togbutikken.no, who had ordered them for me.

Hobbytrade: (ME/DI.4 Hjulsæt DC). Item no. 91003

They have worked well for my Nohab locomotives.

Best Regards
Petter

Hi Richard,

one approach could be simply to polish the existing wheels and carefully check and adjust the current pickup.

My Heljan Di3 (one of the first delivered from Bergen Modelljernbane, I think it was back in year 2000) is actually one of the best-running locomotives I have. It is more than ten years since I removed the black layer from the wheels, and here is how it looks like right now:

well, some of my Heljan Di.3's indeed do run very well, no problem with current pick up at all. These have been weathered but with the wheels/wheelaxles thoroughly cleaned, no problem. However, this does not go for all. With a few, cleaning does not bring any improvement strange enough.
So that is why I am considering changing wheels/axles.
Contact with Togbutikken has been established.
Cheers, Richard
